Liesel is a strikingly elegant doe, exceptionally dairy in her flatness of bone, tall, upstanding, sharp in the withers and smoothly blended throughout. Very similar in type to her twin sister, Liesel tends to place over Eliana, I believe primarily because with less udder capacity, she is better able to fill her udder and show off her outstanding mammary! Shown just once as a dry yearling, Liesel placed 1st and Junior Champion (Leg I!). Shown 4 X in 2004, Liesel placed 2 X 1st, 2 X 2nd, and 2 X Reserve GCH! Shown twice in 2005, she placed 1 X 2nd (to Sheba) and 1 X 3rd. Leisel has the extremely high rear udder (LA 45 on rear udder height!) and excellent fore extension that we are seeing so consistently in the Brutus daughters. Liesel is unquestionably one of our top does; however, sadly, in 2006 she became severely ill 2 weeks after an easy kidding. An expensive and in depth veterinary work up yielded no clues as to her diagnosis. She refused to eat or drink, and became extremely emaciated. We kept her alive only by tubing milk down her twice/day. I discussed putting her down with the vet, but the vet did not feel that her condition was irreversible. VERY gradually, and remarkably, after 4 months of not eating, during August, Liesel began to nibble grain, and drink water. She is now back in the herd, eating like a pig, and has regained virtually all her weight!!! After discussion with the vet, we decided to breed her again this fall, and she is doing well to date.
We were very pleased to sell one of her 2006 twin bucks into the Munchin Hill herd in WV; thanks Pat and Jeff for your confidence in my breeding!! Liesel's other 2006 son is in a New Hampshire herd.
