We looked far and wide for a new herd sire whom we could feel would both complement our genetics and improve upon the overall quality of our herd. When we finally identified the Londia X Trendsetter breeding, we knew that this was the breeding we’d been searching for! Lohengrin brings a new combination of lines already present, and working well, in our herd. His dam, Londia, is the littermate twin to Liason, sire of Delaney and Limerick. She comes from lines widely recognized as having produced some of the most outstanding Alpines of the breed in recent years. Additionally, Londia has been an outstanding brood doe for the Hoach herd, consistently producing top quality offspring.
On his web page, Randy Hoach writes:
"If ever there was breeding royalty it would be Londia. The daughter
of the 1st. Place 2yr. Old at the 1994 National (Londia doubles on Lyric), the
Double Grand daughter of the 1994 National Champion, Goldenlark, Grand
daughter of 2x National Champion, Angela, Paternal Sister to the great GCH
Willow Run Armand Rishona, and the daughter of a 2X National show Premier Sire,
as well as the sister to the 2003 National Show Premier Sire! Londia is
everything her pedigree suggests in type, style, conformation, and overall
mammary quality".
Further pleasing to us is the fact that Lohengrin is a linebred buck (9.7%), with both Angela and Rico Suave appearing on both sides.
Lohengrin himself is a very stylish and upstanding buck, with excellent height in the withers. He is tall, long and level, with excellent rear leg angulation. He is smoothly blended over the shoulders. We were very pleased with his yearling linear appraisal score of 89 with an “E” in general appearance! We had hoped for a few more daughters to get a better feel for his “get”, but we are pleased with the daughters we have, and especially love the very impressive Black Velvet, his daughter by GCH Rose of Sharon. Velvet went GCH as a first freshener in both of the two shows she attended in 2007, over many more mature competitors, earning 2 GCH legs!! If her exquisite mammary is typical of his daughters, Lohengrin will be a very valuable sire indeed. We are very proud to own this handsome buck, and once again thank Randy Hoach for making available to us.
